FG Settles ₦333.12 billion Debt to Eight participating Power Generation Companies, Says Verheijen
Special Adviser to the President Bola Tinubu on Energy, Olu Arowolo Verheijen on Tuesday said the Federal Government has met it’s financial obligations to power companies under a settlement agreement. Speaking at the Investor Forum for the Presidential Power Sector Financial Reforms Programme (PPSFRP) – Series I, she said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated beyond doubt its commitment to making a clean break from the fiscal dysfunction that once defined Nigeria’s power sector. She said that through bold policy decisions and disciplined execution, the government is converting an unsustainable liability into a bankable, well-governed investment opportunity that the market can trust. “In February 2026, the Federal Government deployed approximately ₦501 billion, N300 billion in cash and roughly ₦201 …

CBN Keeps Benchmark Interest Rate at 26.5 Percent
From Victor Osula, Abuja The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has retained the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), the country’s benchmark interest rate, at 26.5 percent. The decision was announced at the end of the Committee’s 306th meeting, held in Abuja on July 20 and 21, 2026. All 11 members of the Committee attended the two-day meeting, during which they reviewed recent domestic and global economic developments before unanimously deciding to leave the benchmark lending rate unchanged. FG Returns Assets To Licencing Pool as Investors Shun 13 Oil Blocks
Thirteen oil and gas blocks offered by the Federal Government in Nigeria’s 2025 Licensing Round failed to attract investor bids, forcing their return to the national licensing pool despite a competitive auction that generated about 200 bids from 143 qualified companies. The outcome of the country’s flagship upstream licensing exercise was announced on Tuesday in Abuja by the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, during the 2025 Commercial Bid Conference, where the Commission presented the results of the bidding process conducted under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021. Although the exercise recorded strong investor participation, the inability of more than a quarter of the offered assets to secure commercial bids highlights the increasingly selective …
